Like a favorite family recipe or a traditional bedtime story remembered from childhood, songs are nourishment for the psyche. They delve into the impenetrable, rejoice at the happy occasion, and bind singer and audience to each other and to the generative tradition which has shaped everyone's lives. To sing these songs is to find continuity with the past and community in the present.

Voices of Sepharad has made three recordings:

Hamsa--Drawn from Harris's fieldwork and friendships throughout the Sephardic world, Hamsa offers tender and raucous love songs, gorgeous melodies of the Sabbath table, playful holiday koplas, and Flory Jagoda's stirring "Todos si hueron," commissioned by Voices of Sepharad.

Viva Sepharad graphicViva Sepharad, recorded in 1992, offers songs with a rich palette of expression and range of emotion from Turkey, Rhodes, Morocco, Bosnia and Greece. This recording also includes a traditional flamenco cante, which Spanish flamencologists have often cited as Sephardic in origin.

Viva Sepharad can be purchased directly from Voices of Sepharad. Contact Us to purchase a copy.

Pasion graphicPasión is Voices of Sepharad’s debut recording featuring kantigas and ballads from throughout the Balkan and Eastern Mediterranean Jewish communities.

Recorded in 1989, it is currently out of print.
